Playa Dining & Beach Club Guide

Alessia Rooftop Dining - Thompson Hotel on 5th Avenue
Alessia Rooftop Dining – Thompson Hotel on 5th Avenue

Playa del Carmen enjoys an abundance of restaurants on the beach & along Playa’s main pedestrian-only walkway 5th Avenue; however you’ll find prices tend to be higher than average & food can sometimes be subpar. Veer off the busy areas & duck into the side streets & avenues; you’ll discover a world of cheap eats, traditional bites that offer more bang for your pesos! NOTE: Often restaurants during low season close temporarily & some are only open certain days of the week. Please check their website before going.

One of the most beautiful streets in Playa del Carmen is Calle (street) 38th off 5th Avenue going towards the ocean. Take a stroll down as not only is it a beautiful street due to the huge trees draping over the street, but it has a wonderful “jungle” vibe with open-air restaurants & bars which offer a bohemian ‘Tulum’ feel.  At night the warm lights hanging from the massive trees with the soft music playing makes for a magical setting!

We have broken the guide down by category of price & food. Those highlighted in yellow are our personal favorites! Please let us know if you discover your own favorites!  (Note: Layout of Playa del Carmen. Calles (streets) run east/west in two’s. 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th etc. Avenues (avenidas) run north/south in five’s. 5th, 10th, 15th etc. This makes it easy to get around.
