1. Private Transportation:
Playa Beach Condo can arrange private transportation for you if requested. Driver will meet you outside the airport with a sign bearing your last name and take you to Luna Encantada in an air conditioned vehicle. Cost is $75 each way to central Playa and $85 to Playacar. Your trip can include an optional stop for groceries for a nominal additional fee paid directly to the driver (while it’s always our intention to use this service, we always opt for getting right to the beach!).
2. Riviera Airport/ADO/Playa Bus:
For a low cost transportation alternative, take the airport shuttle bus “RIVIERA/ADO” to Playa del Carmen. After passing through immigration and customs, you will see several booths for transport, tours and car rentals. Go to the booth which is at the very end just before you walk outside. If you don’t see it and/or you get a bit confused by all of the vendors vying for your attention, you may purchase your ticket at their second booth which is just outside the doors. The tickets are about $8 per person and the bus has frequent departures. The bus drops you at the downtown terminal in Playa del Carmen which is a very short walk to the condo. Simply walk north (left) on 5th Avenue to Calle 10 and turn right. Walk a little more than one block to El Faro which will be on the right side of the street. You can have one of the men on the 3 wheeled bikes haul your luggage to the condo for a few dollars.
3. Rental Car:
Easy and convenient but not necessary and can make you a target for unethical stops by the police. Playa Beach Condo can arrange for a rental car through Budget at excellent rates or there are numerous agencies available at the airport. Please note that you will need a special permit (provided by Playa Beach Condo) to cross 5th Avenue in your car in Playa – it can be a real pain if you are made to walk 2-3 blocks with all of your luggage.
4. Other options, which are not recommended, include:
Shuttle: Next to the Riviera booth, there is a shuttle service which will take you for approx $18 usd per person.
Bus: Cheap at around $7.00 but can be time consuming if you happen to miss one bus and have to wait for the next one scheduled. See www.cancunsouth.com/get_busses.htm for more info. However, if you are not in a hurry and want an inexpensive option, the bus is very nice with A/C, movies and infrequent stops.
5. Arriving from Cozumel via Ferry:
If you are arriving from Cozumel via the ferry you may also secure luggage assistance from one of the men driving the three wheeled bicycles. Walk straight west from the ferry dock about one block until you reach 5th Avenue. Turn right (north). At Calle 10 you will turn right (east). The entrance to El Faro is midway down the street on the right hand side.
Once you arrive in Playa and want to get around….
There is a taxi stand at the end of our block. If you walk to Wal Mart or Mega (or darn near anywhere) there are taxis to bring you (and your Groceries) back home. Or, contact our guest services manager if you would like to rent a taxi for the day or for a longer trip.
And, our private driver, Johnny Garcia Cruz, is often available to assist you with day trips. He is highly recommended by everyone who has used him as friendly, prompt, reliable and easy to contact via phone, text and email. He even tweets.
